The 7th Annual Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence (CCDV) Symposium explores the complex ways trauma is experienced, transmitted, and transformed across the lifespan. This year's theme, The Violence We Inherit: Breaking Generational Cycles of Trauma, recognizes that exposure to violence in childhood can influence adolescent development, adult relationships, parenting practices, health outcomes, and community well-being. It also acknowledges that generational trauma extends beyond individual families and may be reinforced by systemic challenges, generational cycles, poverty, housing instability, and barriers to care.

At the same time, this theme is rooted in hope. While trauma can be inherited, healing can be cultivated. Through prevention, early intervention, services centered on lived experiences, and coordinated community responses, individuals and communities can interrupt cycles of violence and create pathways toward resilience and recovery.

The symposium invites legal professionals, advocates, researchers, healthcare providers, educators, people with lived experiences, policymakers, community leaders, and law enforcement to explore innovative approaches that address trauma across the lifespan.
